Piezoelectric transducers are made invaluable to modern high tech applications, by their fast response, high bandwidth and force, and virtually unlimited resolution. These modern high tech applications including; flow measurement, distance gauging, bio-medical dispensing and aerosol generation, as well as metrology, semiconductor testing, and aerospace technology.

PI, a leader in piezo ceramic and motion control solutions, offers value added piezo components by adhering flexible printed circuits for easy application integration.

The Piezo electric effect

Piezo materials, mostly special ceramic formulations, generate an electric charge when a mechanical force is applied. This behavior is called the direct piezo effect. Conversely, when an electric field is applied to a piezo transducer, it will change its shape (inverse piezo effect). The response is very fast, allowing oscillations in the ultrasound range up to millions of Hertz.

No soldering needed

Traditional integration of piezo components requires soldering by experienced personnel to electrically connect the transducers. PI’s new flexible printed circuits provide the necessary electrical contact, securely and easily, without soldering. Automated attachment is now easily possible providing greater versatility and saving cost and time-to-market.

Customisable

PI’s Ceramic Division specialises in OEM customisation of piezo elements including encapsulating or mounting to an existing customer component. Made from ferroelectric soft or hard piezo materials and available as spheres, disks, rods, cylinders, plates, blocks, rings, and tubes, PI can custom-design components to match the requirements of the individual application.

Standard and custom

PI provides in-house engineered solutions with over four decades of experience delivering products that exceed expectations and application demands of our customers.  PI can quickly modify existing product designs or provide a fully customised OEM part to fit the exact requirements of the application.
