The C2000 Piccolo F2806x InstaSPIN-MOTION LaunchPad DevKit, which allows developers to control three-phase motors in minutes, has been released by Texas Instruments. Alongside an MCU, the kit features emulation and InstaSPIN-MOTION software, enabling the quick design of real-time motion control systems with optimised sensored or sensorless motion control.

The software, which is based on the company’s InstaSPIN-FOC motor control solution, reduces controller tuning to a single parameter, optimises complex motion sequences and tracks trajectories with a high level of accuracy across operating ranges. By utilising the integrated 90MHz C2000 Piccolo TMS320F28069M MCU with on-chip InstaSPIN-MOTION motion control technology, the DevKit eliminates motion control challenges in traditional motor systems.

InstaSPIN-MOTION SpinTAC components, which are embedded on the ROM of the MCU, ensure optimum control by automatically identifying the real inertia and friction of the system. These components also minimise effort and reduce complexity with single coefficient tuning. Developers can rapidly test and tune position and/or velocity control from soft to stiff response, defining a controller gain that typically works across the entire operating range of an application. Providing maximum performance, the controller actively estimates and cancels system disturbances in real time. The InstaSPIN-MOTION SpinTAC components also enable developers to produce run-time optimised motion profiles based on start, and target position or velocity and system limitations for acceleration, jerk and motion trajectory type. In addition, the components allow developers to combine various MOVEs with state-based logic.

The FAST algorithm-based sensorless control, along with the InstaSPIN-FOC and InstaSPIN-MOTION features, enable sensorless torque or velocity control. Sensored velocity or servo position plus velocity control are provided by the encoder feedback and InstaSPIN-MOTION solution, while isolated, real-time JTAG debugging is enabled by the on-board XDS100v2 USB to JTAG (and UART).

“With the introduction of our C2000 Piccolo F2806x InstaSPIN-MOTION LaunchPad, we are making it even easier for our motion control customers to experiment with and implement our proven InstaSPIN-MOTION and InstaSPIN-FOC control solutions,” commented Chris Clearman, Worldwide Manager, Motor Control Solutions. “Our trusted InstaSPIN and LaunchPad solutions, enable customers to create differentiated products and accelerate time to market.”

The C2000 F2806x InstaSPIN-MOTION LaunchPad (LAUNCHXL-F28069M) and the C2000 InstaSPIN-FOC LaunchPad (LAUNCHXL-F28027F) are available now from $25 and $17, respectively.
