Wi-Fi evaluation kit is powered by Cortex-M3 MCU

A compact Wi-Fi module and evaluation kit from Lantronix is in stock at Alpha Micro. Based on Broadcom's WICED platform with a ARM Cortex-M3 microcontroller and comprising an embedded device server the Lantronix xPico Wi-Fi module provides a compact, low power method of provisioning wireless LAN connectivity to almost any IoT application.

Featuring two serial ports, 8 GPIO and supporting all popular LAN network protocols the low profile module measures just 18.3 x 26.1 x 3.0 mm and consumes down to 6 uA in standby mode. Compliant to IEEE 802.11 b/g/n WLAN standards and the IEEE 802.11i improved security encryption specifications the module also provides a soft access point interface complete with DHCP server. A QuickConnect function provides easy access to pre-stored profiles that aid setting up a WLAN connection to regularly used access points.

The built-in embedded server provides a web management interface for displaying the module and communication status, configuring the module parameters and setting up different WLAN profiles. The server also has a robust over-the-air (OTA) firmware update capability. A command line interface (CLI) is also provided.

Aiding the integration of the xPico Wi-Fi module into a design Lantronix offers three evaluation board options. The XPW100100k-01 evaluation kit includes a xPico wireless module, 5 VDC wall adapter and an evaluation board with connectors for antenna, USB and Ethernet. Other kits offer the option of using an xPico SMT package with or without an on-board chip antenna.

Capable of battery operation the xPico WiFi modules can operate over the full industrial temperature range from -40 to +85 degrees C.
