DSM Computer has extended its A1 Embedded PC family with two higher-performance models with Intel Core processors of the third generation. The new systems integrate the Intel Core i7-3610QE processor with four CPU cores and 6 MB cache or i5-3610ME processor with two cores and 3 MB cache.
Both processors can run at a maximum turbo clock frequency of 3.30 GHz. Another performance improvement was achieved with the integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000 graphical controller that is significantly faster than the graphic chip integrated in the Intel Core processors of the second generation.

Despite the extremely high computing, graphical and video performance, the A1 industrial computers are installed in a completely closed housing. Thanks to the hybrid-cooling concept developed by DSM, the system avoids the need for air exchange from the exterior to the interior of the device. To ensure the optimum cooling, two heat pipes conduct the heat generated by the processor directly to two large heat sinks on the exterior of the device. The internal fan guarantees the optimum heat transmission to the internal wall of the housing and so prevents hot spots. The robust computers are specified for 0° to 45° C ambient temperature and designed for operation in dusty environments.

The integrated PCI Express x16 slot allows the A1 IPC family to be extended, for example, with an additional short graphic card or a frame-grabber. The external display interfaces HDMI, DVI-I and DVI-D are available for the connection of high-resolution monitors. Eight USB 2.0 connections (four external, four internal), two external USB 3.0 connections and four serial ports (three RS232, one RS232/RS422/RS485) are augmented with an internal serial ATA for two SATA III and four SATA II devices. In addition to two GigaBit LAN sockets, a Wireless LAN 802.11b/g/n is supported on request. Furthermore, an internal Mini PCI Express x1 slot is provided for short modules.

As standard, the compact embedded systems are delivered with a 40 GB SSD or alternatively also with a 2.5-inch industrial HDD. The small, dust-proof flap on the front side of the devices covers an optional exchangeable plug-in unit for installation of two 2.5-inch drives (SSD / Industrial HDD) or for embedded applications with a low storage requirement, a Compact Flash socket for booting the operating system. The displaced rear panel creates a cable duct for the easy attachment of the connection and interface cables.

The power to the compact A1 computer is supplied by a wide-range power pack with 12 and 24 VDC or an external 100 - 240 VAC power pack. The industrial computers have a low standby energy consumption and so satisfy the EuP/ErP directive.
