Synplicity has announced the expansion of its ESL software offering. Following the company's strategy of delivering technology-independent solutions, the new Synplify DSP ASIC Edition software allows users to automatically develop high-quality RTL code from designs specified at the algorithm level for implementation into either an FPGA or ASIC device.

New DAB module includes iPod docking capability
Frontier Silicon today announced availability of a reference design that enables audio manufacturers to quickly produce low-cost DAB/FM radios with iPod docking capability. The Jupiter 3 (FS4023) platform is based on Frontier Silicon’s Venice 5 (FS2025) DAB/FM module which now has an integrated docking interface for communication and control of iPods, something that was previously only achievable using a separate microcontroller and DAB module. Jupiter 3 can be used as it is or as a starting point to speed development of custom OEM products, and its modular-based approach simplifies the design and manufacturing process, making it easy to produce compact DAB/FM radios with iPod docking that could retail for as little as UK£35.

NI LabVIEW Real-Time Now Targets Wind River VxWorks RTOS

National Instruments has extended the NI LabVIEW graphical programming environment to now target the Wind River VxWorks real-time operating system (RTOS), which has been deployed in more than 350 million devices worldwide including the latest National Instruments CompactRIO controllers. The NI cRIO-9012 and cRIO-9014 controllers combine the productivity of LabVIEW Real-Time and the reliability of the VxWorks device software, making it easy for engineers to rapidly design embedded systems.

SoftMEMS deal enables EDA Solutions to offer system-level MEMS environment that accelerates development

EDA Solutions (Southampton, UK), the exclusive European representative for Tanner EDA and MOSIS multi-project wafer services for IC fabrication, has signed a representation agreement for Germany, the UK, Benelux and the Nordic region with SoftMEMS to market and support its open-platform, system-level design environment, MEMS Pro. The MEMS Pro environment accelerates development of MEMS devices and incorporates a multi-domain simulator for a variety of electrical and mechanical characteristics including force, deflection, voltage, pressure and fluid dynamics.

National Instruments, Freescale Semiconductor and Wind River are working together to help engineers simplify embedded design, including industrial control and monitoring, with the release of the latest high-performance, real-time controller for the NI CompactRIO platform. The National Instruments cRIO-9014 controller is based on the Freescale MPC5200 processor built on Power Architecture technology and the Wind River VxWorks real-time operating system (RTOS) to deliver the processing speed, memory and storage required for a variety of demanding embedded and industrial applications such as high-speed machine control, machine monitoring/protection, in-vehicle data logging and embedded device prototyping.

$99 Development Tool Accelerates Ultra Low Power Design
Enabling designers to quickly develop ultra low power medical, industrial and consumer embedded systems using either a highly integrated signal chain on chip (SCoC) MSP430FG4618 or small 14-pin F2013 microcontroller, Texas Instruments has announced today the availability of the MSP430 Experimenter's Board (part number MSP-EXP430FG4618). Along with the two 16-bit MSP430 devices, the board includes a TI (Chipcon) radio frequency (RF) module connecter for developing low power wireless networks. The board also features a number of input and output options such as a microphone, buzzer, liquid crystal display (LCD), capacitive touch-pad, push buttons, and pin board prototyping space, among others.

NI and Analog Devices Deliver Production-Ready Embedded System Development Solution

National Instruments and Analog Devices have announced the release of the NI LabVIEW Embedded Module for ADI Blackfin Processors 2.0, an extension of the LabVIEW graphical development environment that directly targets ADI Blackfin processors. Since its introduction, the LabVIEW Embedded Module for Blackfin Processors has been adopted by engineers for the rapid development of sophisticated embedded systems ranging from cutting-edge medical devices to subsea monitoring systems. The latest version of the module delivers more than 30% increased efficiency in code generation and expanded Blackfin processor support including the $5 (USD) ADSP-BF531, which provides a price/performance advantage ideal for cost-sensitive applications such as portable test equipment, embedded modems, biometrics and consumer audio.
