High-frequency applications, especially in the area of radio technology, require air coils with a particularly high Q-factor. Targeting current market requirements for this area of applications, Würth Electronik has expanded its portfolio of WE-CAIR air coils with design types 1322 and 1340. These types are one-third flatter than the current series of products.

An online tool to aid the selection of transformers for discontinuous mode, flyback, SMPS designs has been launched by Würth Elektronik. When input voltage range, switching frequency, output voltages and current are entered, the Smart Transformer Selector (STS) will return a list of prequalified, off-the-shelf transformers.

Würth Electronics Midcom has created models of all custom magnetics form factors available in their Custom Capabilities Catalog. The custom magnetics models are available in downloadable libraries containing over 90 different form factors, including bobbin and header style packages.

Providing an introduction into capacitor technology, a handbook titled ‘ABC of Capacitors - Basics, Characteristics and Capacitor Types’ has been published by Würth Elektronik eiSos. Written by Stephan Menzel, the reference book discusses the wide range of capacitor types, their properties and parameters.

A USB 2.0 type A jack, claimed to be the world's first USB jack with an integrated EMC filter and ESD protection, has been released by Würth Elektronik eiSos. The WE-EPLE USB jack has the same dimensions as, and is pad-compatible, with most conventional USB jacks. Existing designs can be quickly upgraded to EMC-compatible designs. 

Receiving a UL Mark for flex-rigid printed circuit boards is not easy, as there are many different combinations of materials and configurations. After a time-intensive and close coordination with the UL engineers, an enormous amount of test patterns and high costs, Würth Elektronik was able to record a big achievement: four flex-rigid printed circuit boards received the UL Listing. Designed to reduce installation costs, the PowerLamella power supply elements have been introduced by Würth Elektronik. The elements are suitable for connecting fuses, switches and cables to the circuit board and can be used board to board and wire to board and also combined with PowerRadsok high current contacts.

To enable MOSFETs to be activated under conditions of high insulation voltages, a gate-drive transformer in the EP7 design has been released by Würth Elektronik. The transformer, which is designed to be fitted to a synchronously aligned flyback converter, enables MOSFETs to be activated up to 2500V.

The PowerTwo Power Elements, designed for screw-type technologies on circuit boards, are now available in Würth Elektronik's Original Power Elements Online Shop. The two-part power elements are press-fitted rather than soldered and can, therefore, be used at high temperatures. With the elements, stable connection and mounting on the circuit board is enabled without any additional stress.

Responding to the growing demand for Qi standard devices, Würth Elektronik has introduced two wireless power transmitter coils in the 12V voltage range. Complying with the Qi standard of the WPC, the 760308104113 (A13) single coil and 760308104119 (A19) two coil array offer high quality with litz wire and premium ferrite to get a high Q factor and a low RDC.

To reduce common mode noise in the high frequency range on data and signal lines, Wurth Electronics has introduced a common mode choke with a wide attenuation bandwidth. The current compensated choke combines with a NiZn core, enabling a broadband attenuation response that operates into the GHz frequency range.

Power elements, featuring a compact design, have been released by Würth Elektronik ICS. The PowerPlus elements, which consist of a punched brass base body and a stainless steel screw, allow double-sided assembly of power supply elements in the same position. Achieving torques of 1.8Nm with the M4 thread and up to 42Nm with the M12, the screw is claimed to enable a higher torque than other high-current contacts.

Designed to reduce broadband mains-borne radio interference, chokes with nanocrystalline cores have been introduced by Würth Elektronik. The WE-CMBNC family of current-compensated, common-mode chokes have been made with nanocrystalline cores and feature broadband attenuation.

An online price calculation facility for mounted assemblies, which is integrated with a PCB configurator from WEdirekt, has been introduced by M. Richter. This has been introduced to meet the customer requirement for immediate access to key product information such as price, quantity and delivery times. 

Modern components with high clock rates and short switching times for high signal transmission rates require impedance matching for rigid-flex PCB technology. The impedance calculation, as well as the documentation and measurement of impedances is becoming increasingly important.

  A rigid-flex PCB, which meets the material requirements of motorcycle sport, has been developed by Würth Elektronik with GCD-PCB-Design. These requirements include suitability for rapid pace, extreme load changes, summer heat and mud, dust and dirt. 

A high-current element for mounting on PCBs in SMD technology has been launched by Würth Elektronik ICS. The PowerOne SMD offers an alternative solution to regular press-in technology or through-hole technology (THT), with the SMD high-current elements processed with typical SMT lines and soldered in an infrared furnace or using the steam phase system.
