Wi-SUN Alliance has announced a record year for Wi-SUN FAN (Field Area Networks) product certification driven by a growing and active ecosystem of 300+ members in 46 countries.

Smart cities are expected to be commonplace within the next ten years, according to a new poll by Wi-SUN Alliance, a global ecosystem of member companies seeking to accelerate the implementation of open standards-based Field Area Networks (FAN) and the Internet of Things (IoT).

A new report from Wi-SUN Alliance, has shown that half of organisations investing in IoT initiatives already have a fully implemented strategy in place, while more than a third (36%) have a partially implemented strategy. Companies are most advanced in the oil and gas industry, with 75% having a fully implemented strategy, followed by Technology (59%) and Energy and Utilities (57%).

  Phil Beecher, Chairman of Wi-SUN Alliance, talks about how a standardised ecosystem will help drive widespread IoT growth. According to analyst firm Gartner, IoT endpoints will grow 32.9% up until 2020 by which time the installed base will have reached 20.4 billion units.
