University funds power company to invest in UK railways

  A company which provides a range of products and services to the electrical power industry has doubled its turnover and recruited 15 new members of staff. The business was awarded £496,000 from the University of Derby’s Invest to Grow fund to develop new infrastructure and purchase a larger site.

Top female engineers will share their journeys at event

Top female engineers from across the East Midlands will share their career journeys and ambitions with school and college girls at an event hosted by the University of Derby. The ‘Women in Engineering’ event, which is supported by Rolls-Royce and Bombardier, will be held at the University’s Kedleston Road site on Tuesday, March 8 from 6pm to 9pm.

Science Without Borders student develops 3D printer

João Victor Araújo Tavares has developed a 3D printer after completing a scholarship with the University of Derby. While completing his postgraduate studies in Mechatronic Engineering at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), João spent a year studying at the University of Derby as part of the Science Without Borders overseas study programme.

Investment provides building to support STEM students

University of Derby has been successfully granted £5m by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), to be used as part of a £12m investment in a 4,200 square-metre building for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The money, part of a wider £200m investment by HEFCE, will support an increase in STEM students at the University.
