Computing GCSEs has seen a recent rise in the number of girls that chose to study the subject. In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, the number of girls that sat computing as a GCSE has more than doubled in the last year, from 5,700 in 2015, to 12,500 in 2016. This is part of an increase in the total number of computing GCSEs, which has risen by 76% from 36,000 in 2015 to 62,000 in 2016.

  Tech employers have hailed the central status of digital skills in the Government’s new Post-16 Skills Plan, which it has described as “the most significant transformation of post-16 education since A levels were introduced some 70 years ago.”

  Research published by the Tech Partnership has thrown fresh light on the long standing problem of attracting girls into digital education and careers.

Leading tech employers across the UK are preparing to open their doors to young people, hoping to inspire a new generation about the digital world. By offering real world experience of the tech workplace, and a variety of exciting hands-on challenges, they plan to change students’ perceptions of tech roles and careers.
