Low-cost 3D printer broadens scope of users
The latest version of the RepRapPro Ormerod 3D printer is available from RS Components. It is a single-colour low-cost 3D printing machine that is a full open-source and self-replicating. It is easy to expand in functionality, fast to replicate and fast to assemble. All the RepRapPro printers, including previous machines such as the Ormerod and Mendel, are capable of self-replicating their own plastic components.

Laser diodes feature stable power output
A pair of new single-chip dual-wavelength red/infrared laser diodes that offer high output characteristics in a compact size has been introduced by RS Components. Manufactured by Panasonic the devices are ideal for use in optical disk drives, barcode readers and many sensing-based applications such as laser distance sensors for industrial use, or flow cytometers in biomedical applications.
Development boards ease connectivity to Raspberry Pi projects
RS Components is now taking orders for the new SparqEE development boards, which have been designed to enable easy cellular connectivity and Internet access for projects based on the Raspberry Pi and Arduino platforms. A total of seven new SparqEE boards are available to order exclusively from RS, including the CELLv1.0 – a tiny cellular development board that implements a 2G+3G chipset to provide wireless worldwide.

Raspberry Pi has moved up a notch and its latest product – the Raspberry Pi Compute Module – is now available from RS Components (RS). The Touchstone Semiconductor portfolio of analogue IC products is now being stocked by RS Components. The move follows the recent acquisition of Touchstone by Silicon Labs. These devices strengthen RS Components’ embedded portfolio for the Internet of Things (IoT) market. Open source test instrument in production
RS Components (RS) is taking general orders for Red Pitaya, the single-board, open instrumentation and control platform. Prospective buyers who previously registered their interest on the Red Pitaya website, and who have been awaiting availability of the product, were given the opportunity to place a priority order with RS, which guarantees them delivery of a Red Pitaya board from the first limited production run in May 2014.
