Digital road models accelerate autonomous vehicle development
A paper outlining the role of digital road models in the virtual testing of autonomous vehicles will be presented at the Autonomous Vehicle Test and Development Symposium, Stuttgart, 16th to 18th June. rFactorpro’s Digital Road Modelling pipeline, recently voted Development Tool of the Year by Vehicle Dynamics International magazine, is enabling vehicle manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers to bring autonomous vehicles to the road sooner.

This capability allows manufacturers to tailor chassis dynamics on ‘global’ vehicles for individual markets, even before prototypes are available, significantly improving development time and costs.

Driving simulator software, originally developed for Formula 1, will enable vehicle manufacturers to test Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) technologies more accurately than ever before, says maker rFpro. The company believes many of the challenges faced by ADAS developers can be reduced by validating the control system response more comprehensively with a Driver-In-the-Loop (DIL) prior to installation on the vehicle.
