Qualcomm Technologies, EE and Sony Mobile Communications showcased Europe’s first commercial Gigabit LTE/4G mobile device and network.

Two companies at Mobile World Congress Shanghai, Qualcomm Technologies and 360 announced that together they are working on 4G kid watches and are launching 360’s first product for this industry, 360 Kids Watch 6S, based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 platform. The 360 Kids Watch 6S combines the Snapdragon Wear 2100 platform with the 360 OS for Wear operating system, both optimised to meet the evolving needs of connected families.

Qualcomm Technologies has introduced at a conference in Shenzhen, a Smart Audio Platform to help manufacturers accelerate the development and commercialisation of smart and networked speakers. The flexible solution offers two Qualcomm SoC options based on APQ8009 and APQ8017, with a range of software configurations that are designed to allow OEMs to create truly optimised smart speakers across various product tiers and categories. 

Qualcomm Technologies has announced at its IoT industry analyst workshop that the company is currently shipping more than one million chips per day for the IoT.

Qualcomm has launched a Head Mounted Display (HMD) Accelerator Program designed for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) of virtual reality hardware at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Qualcomm Technologies has announced an end-to-end 802.11ax portfolio, which includes the IPQ8074 System-On-Chip (SoC) for network infrastructure and QCA6290 solution for client devices, making Qualcomm Technologies the first company to announce end-to-end commercial solutions to support 802.11ax.

Panasonic Automotive and Qualcomm Technologies have announced that they are working together to develop a next-generation Android-based in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) system. As part of the demonstration, Panasonic Automotive and Qualcomm Technologies have integrated Android 7.0 features to give drivers a unified experience across an automaker’s entire vehicle lineup, adjusting for different applications, screen sizes, and resolutions.

At CES 2017, Qualcomm has made various announcements on its latest Snapdragon processor as well as developments in its IoT, 5G and Automotive offerings.   It has been announced that Qualcomm Technologies, Ericsson, and SK Telecom, plan to conduct interoperability testing and over-the-air field trials based on 5G New Radio (NR) as standards are being developed based on specifications in 3GPP.

Qualcomm through its subsidiary, Qualcomm Datacenter Technologies, announced commercial sampling and conducted a live demonstration of the world’s first 10nm server processor. As the first in the Qualcomm Centriq product family, the Qualcomm Centriq 2400 series has up to 48-cores and is built on the most advanced 10nm FinFET process technology.

The new Internet of Things (IoT) technology LTE-M (also known as LTE Cat-M1) has successfully been trialled by KPN, the first European operator. LTE-M (Machine Type Communication) is a new technology that can be rolled out on the existing 4G network. The LTE-M technology is complementary to the recently introduced LoRa network of KPN as well as to existing Machine-to-Machine (M2M) uses cases on 4G.

Qualcomm Technologies has introduced its first 5G New Radio (NR) spectrum sharing prototype system and trial platform. The industry is designing 5G NR to get the most out of spectrum available across all spectrum types –licensed, unlicensed and shared spectrum – and across spectrum from lower bands (sub-6 GHz) to high bands in the mmWave range.

  Steve Mollenkopf, CEO of Qualcomm, will give the keynote address at CES 2017 which will run from 5th-8th January in Las Vegas.

Qualcomm Technologies introduced the Snapdragon 600E and 410E processors at electronica 2016, for embedded applications in many verticals such as digital signage, set-top-boxes, medical imaging, point of sale systems, industrial robotics, and other Internet of Things (IoT) related applications.
