Share current across multiple DC/DC digital PWM controllers

A dual-phase, DC/DC digital PWM controller, designated the ZL8801, has been introduced by Intersil. Capable of sharing current across multiple devices, the controller's range can be extended up to 300A for high-end FPGAs and ASICs employed in densely populated power supplies in servers, storage equipment and basestations.

Li-ion battery charger extends life of eCall systems

Designed to extend the life of Li-ion batteries in automotive emergency call (eCall) systems, a single-cell battery charger has been introduced by Intersil. The ISL78692's leakage current dissipation of 3μA and charging voltage of 4.1V enables a backup battery to remain charged and be used for a longer period of time.

PMIC integrates display power & backlight LED driver

Increasing smartphone battery life by an hour or more, the ISL98611 power management IC integrates the display power and backlight LED driver functions in a single chip. Significantly improving the efficiency of both functions, Intersil's PMIC also improves display brightness uniformity and colour consistency.

55V buck controller targets automotive applications

Claimed to be the most versatile high voltage buck solution available, Intersil has introduced a 55V synchronous buck controller with 3A integrated high side and low side drivers. The ISL78268 provides up to 96% step-down efficiency for a wide variety of load currents from under 5 to over 25A to support 12, 24, or 48V high current buck requirements for automotive and industrial applications.

Power monitors deliver high accuracy measurements

Claimed by the manufacturer to support the industry's widest common mode input voltage range of 0-60V, the ISL2802x family of digital power monitors has been unveiled by Intersil. The three devices provide full featured bi-directional, high-side and low-side digital current sense and voltage monitors with a serial interface.

Voltage references target the rad hard space market

Expanding the company's radiation hardened (rad hard) voltage reference portfolio, Intersil has introduced the ISL71091SEH10, ISL71091SEH20, ISL71091SEH33, ISL71091SEH40. The manufacturer claims that the family offers the industry’s best output voltage noise and a reference voltage that is stable over time, temperature and ionising radiation.

Transition from analogue to HD over existing coax

Intersil announces the TW6872 HD-SDI video transmitter and TW6874 quad HD-SDI receiver with Dirac VC-2 mezzanine compression, an end-to-end solution enabling picture perfect, latency free video over extended cable distances. The devices are designed to conform to the SMPTE standards for SD, HD and 3G serial digital transmission.

Four-channel video decoder improves driver safety

Designed for around-view automotive applications, Intersil has announced a four-channel analogue video decoder with a built-in analogue video encoder. The TW9966 can replace up to five discrete components to simplify design and save board space with four analogue video decoders and an analogue video encoder integrated into a single chip.

PWM controller for desktop and server applications

Designed for high-end desktop and server applications, a six-phase pulse-width modulation (PWM) controller compliant with Intel’s VR12/12.5 specification has been announced by Intersil. The ISL6388 features multiple time programmable NVM that allows for the creation of custom configurations during the design process, eliminating the need for a soldering iron to make adjustments.

Synchronous buck regulators support auxiliary rails on FPGA platforms

Intersil has introduced 3Amp synchronous buck regulators for which it makes the claim that the devices will improve reliability and extend the life of end products. With integrated high side and low side MOSFETs, the new ISL85003/3A buck regulators support an input voltage range of 4.5V to 18V.

LCD processor exceeds vehicle safety regulations

A LCD video processor, designated the TW8836 by Intersil, exceeds government safety regulations by displaying rear camera video in less than 500ms from the start of a vehicle. The device is offered with both analog and digital video inputs, a built-in scaler and de-interlacer, as well as image enhancement and On Screen Display capabilities in a single-chip, hardware-based solution.

Device delivers 100W output power in 2.9cm2 footprint

The ISL8240M power module has been launched by Intersil, with the company claiming the device sets a new standard for efficiency and power density in infrastructure and embedded computing applications. The dual 20A/single 40A step-down power module delivers up to 100W of output power in a 2.9cm2 footprint, whilst also providing more than 90% power efficiency.

Drivers extend life of multi-cell Li-ion batteries

Intersil has claimed that the HIP2103 and HIP2104 are the industry’s first small form factor half-/full-bridge drivers that significantly extend power usage and overall product life of 5-50V multi-cell lithium ion (Li) battery devices. These bridge drivers have a configurable topology to facilitate half-bridge, full-bridge and three phase motor-driven applications.
