Prototype fusion power plant with clean energy

A clean energy power plant is being developed by Tokamak Energy with the help of advanced simulation software, and will be based on nuclear fusion. Using the electromagnetic design and analysis facilities provided by the Cobham Technical Services Opera software, critical design issues are being resolved at an early stage to help prototype an ultra-compact spherical tokamak in a tiny footprint that is about the size of a house room.

Radio test set alliance unveiled at Orlando show

Automated test and alignment capabilities for KENWOOD Viking portable and mobile radios have been announced by Cobham and EF Johnson Technologies. This new capability is available on the Cobham 3920B and the 8800 Series Radio Test Sets. The automated test and alignment procedure provides fully automated test and alignment of KENWOOD Viking radios without the need for user interaction.

Software applications automate digital radio test

Two new, automated test and alignment software applications to support the new Motorola APX 8000 Radios have been released by Cobham. The two software applications are available as options to both the 3920B Series Analogue and Digital Radio Test Platform and the 8800 Series Digital Radio Test Set. Both applications fully automate APX 8000 radio testing and alignment.

Parallel processing software shortens simulation run-times

Parallel processing software, claimed to speed up the development of beam particles, has been released by Cobham Technical Services. The 3D Space Charge module is an addition to the company's Opera-3d suite of electromagnetic and multi-physics design tools, which use finite element (FE) analysis to compute the physical interaction of charged particles with electrostatic or magnetostatic fields.

Research Programme Targets Next-generation Electric Motors For Luxury Automobiles

Next-generation electric motors for low carbon emission vehicles are the target of a new collaborative research programme to be led by Cobham Technical Services. The project, ‘Rapid Design and Development of a Switched Reluctance Traction Motor’, will also involve partners Jaguar Land-Rover and engineering consultancy Ricardo UK, and is co-funded by the Technology Strategy Board.
