  As the tech industry turns its attention once again to Las Vegas for the annual CES show, many have been disappointed by a lack of change. Gender inequality has occupied a significant amount of column inches in the US over the past six months, and this week’s Golden Globe Awards was no exception. It was therefore slightly surprising to see that all of the top six speakers at CES were male.

Products and research from Taiwan unveiled at CES 2017

Influential insights and a first look at new products and research from ASUSTeK, KYMCO, Delta, Thermaltake and ITRI were among the highlights of a press conference at CES 2017 in Las Vegas on January 5th. The Taiwan Excellence event shone a spotlight on Taiwanese innovation. It was organised by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), the foremost organisation promoting mutual trade and investment between Taiwan and the world.

CES celebrates 50 years of technology
2017 marks the 50th anniversary of the world's leading innovation event, cementing CES' place in history as the global gathering place for innovation and technology. Since its start in 1967, CES has showcased an estimated 700,000 products. These include world-changing innovations such as the VCR (1970), the DVD (1996), digital radio (2000) and Blu-ray recording standards released (2002).

More than 4,500 professionals have registered for CES Asia

Since registration opened three weeks ago, more than 4,500 consumer technology professionals from 80 countries have registered to attend the inaugural International CES Asia. CES Asia will run from 25th to 27th May in Shanghai, China, at the Shanghai New International Expo Center and will draw global businesses to showcase the latest products and technologies entering the Asian marketplace.

At the 2015 CES, which takes place from 6th to 9th January in Las Vegas, Hollywood stars, TV personalities, professional athletes and musical icon will be promoting the latest innovations. Nick Cannon, an actor, entrepreneur and radio/TV personality, will serve as the Ambassador for Entertainment Matters, which is content-focused CES programme developed for the film, television and digital communities.

CES keynote features executives from Google & Disney

The ‘Brand Matters’ keynote at the 2015 International CES will feature executives from Condé Nast, Fox Networks Group, Google, McDonald’s and Disney. The 2015 CES, which is organised by CEA, will run from 6th to 9th January, in Las Vegas, Nevada. This keynote, which is scheduled to take place on 7th January at 3pm in the Westgate Theater, is a CES programme specifically aimed at the advertising and marketing communities.

The CEA has announced programming and registration for the second annual CES Unveiled Paris, which will be held in conjunction with CEA’s 18th annual CEO Summit. CES Unveiled Paris is part of the overall CES Unveiled event series designed to bring innovative technology companies, press, industry analysts, buyers and key consumer electronics (CE) influencers together to showcase new products and tech trends.

CES attracts record numbers

The owner and producer of the International CES, the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), has announced the results of an independent audit that confirmed a record number of international professionals – 40,828 (a 12.7 percent increase from the 2013 CES) – attended the 2014 International CES from 144 countries. Additionally, 6,757 press and industry analysts attended the show to report on the latest consumer technologies and trends.

2014 CES proves to be the biggest in show history

Featuring tech breakthroughs and thousands of new product introductions, the 2014 CES wrapped as the largest in show history with a record two million net square feet of exhibit space housing more than 3,200 exhibitors. More than 150,000 industry professionals were in attendance, including more than 35,000 from outside the United States.

CES today announced the FIOV-2310, a 3U OpenVPX module with a Xilinx Kintex-7 325T/410T user-programmable FPGA at its core. The FIOV-2310 allows the flexible configuration of the high-speed links between the FMC connector and various VPX backplane profiles making it suitable for the most demanding and complex applications.

Creative Electronic Systems SA today announced the VCP-2864, a 3U OpenVPX JPEG 2000 Codec module in a compact, rugged form factor. The VCP-2864 is powered by a Xilinx Kintex-7 FPGA and two JPEG 2000 compression engines. Flexible video configuration options (bitrate, frame rate, etc.) allow the user to optimize the VCP-2864 as needed.

Creative Electronic Systems today announced the RIOV-2440, the newest CES 3U OpenVPX single board computer in a compact, rugged form factor, ready for the most challenging applications requiring very high performance, both in I/O and calculation. The RIOV-2440 features the Freescale QorIQ T Series T4240 communications processor, with 12 dual-threaded cores supporting 24 virtual cores.
