A new, versatile control cabinet computer based on the Intel Celeron 807UE processor has been introduced by Kontron. Part of its 3U CompactPCI Value Line series, the Kontron CP-POCKET is a compact sized industrial computer with all the flexibility of a modular 3U CompactPCI server. With easily combined standard building blocks, this intelligent system is a highly customizable solution.

Leveraging the entire ecosystem of 3U CompactPCI, OEMs and system integrators can define their dedicated wall mount system within minutes. This reduces design and system integration effort to a minimum. Ideal for price-sensitive applications such as machine and factory control, programmable logic controllers, and inspection systems, the intelligent modular system has been cost-optimised with system functionality downgraded from a server to a box sized CPCI platform.

Featuring versatile expansion options enabled by rugged CompactPCI peripheral boards, the Kontron CP-POCKET is accessible from the front without the need to remove the enclosure. With the boards easily swapped in a matter of seconds, the CP-POCKET excels over conventional box PC sized designs with simpler system assembly and maintenance. Supporting applications with high I/O requirements, the new computer features three CompactPCI expansion slots. Complementing this launch, Kontron has a broad portfolio of industrial-grade network, controller, I/O, and field bus cards. Featuring high mechanical strength by design, the cost-optimized CompactPCI platforms increase reliability and further reduce maintenance. An actively cooled system can operate in ambient temperatures from 0°C to 50°C.

Integrating the 3U CompactPCI Kontron CP3003-V, the CP-POCKET includes the Intel Celeron 807UE processor with 1.0 GHz and the Intel QM77 Platform Controller Hub. High data throughput is guaranteed with a smart cache of 1 MB and up to 4 GB of DDR3 SDRAM memory with as much as 1333 MHz. Offering one VGA and two DisplayPort interfaces, the Kontron CP3003-V comes as a double-slot version (8HP) provides a comprehensive range of interfaces at the front panel. Other preipheral connections include one USB 3.0 port, two USB 2.0 ports, one serial port and three Gigabit Ethernet ports to enable horizontal and vertical integration in automation networks. Not requiring an expansion slot, optional storage media such as a CFast module and one 2.5-inch HDD/SSD can be integrated on board. This leaves more headroom for specific extensions.

Supporting Linux, Microsoft Windows 7, and WindowsEmbedded Standard 7, the Kontron CP-POCKET with CP3003-V can be ordered as a pre-validated platform off the shelf or as an application- ready platform including expansion boards, an OS, and certification as required. It is available now.
