Simplifying power and data isolated designs, Maxim Integrated has announced the MAX14853/MAX14855 and MAX14943/MAX14949 family of RS-485 transceivers. The devices' integrated transformer drivers and LDO regulator enables designers to achieve ease of design, high efficiency and robust communication for industrial automation applications.

The MAX14943 isolated RS-485/PROFIBUS DP transceiver, as well as the MAX14949 transceiver, each provide up to 80% efficiency at 150mA load. Available in full or half duplex isolated RS-485 transceivers, the family supports 2.75 and 5kVrms isolation options to protect against large differences in ground potential between ports and allows for robust communication up to 25Mb/s with ±35kV (HBM ESD) isolation on driver outputs/receiver inputs.

The transceivers operate over a temperature range from -40 to +105°C and are suitable for industrial automation, PLC, HVAC and power meter applications.

Timothy Leung, Senior Business Manager, Maxim Integrated, commented: “Our high ESD transceivers, coupled with Maxim’s robust digital isolation technology, provide the industry’s most robust isolated RS-485 solution on the market. We integrated an LDO to regulate the isolated power and provide designers with a smaller solution and lower system cost.”

Supplied in a 16-pin W-SOIC package measuring 11x11mm, the MAX14853/MAX14855 and MAX14943/MAX14949 are available now. The MAX148X2 (MAX14853 & MAX14855) and MAX149X2 (MAX14943 & MAX14949) evaluation kits are also available.
