PREMO has taken out an important low consumption current transducer patent by the Spanish Patents and Trade Office and developed together with the Catalonia Polytechnic University (UPC). ES 2 294 966 1 number patent was granted on 16th February 09 to the Premo Group. The new system developed is based in the “Flux-Gate” principle, a well-known technology employed in magnetometers and sonar boat systems. Premo has combined Flux Gate principle with high performance magnetic materials, providing high permeability and high band-width up to hundreds with power electronics techniques, providing a current sensor system with huge levels of precision, very good linearity along full measuring range, very good accuracy and with low power consumption.

Current transducers range, now available with 200, 400 and 700 A, gives to the industry a power tool for precise current monitoring, accurately and very compact, offering low power energy consumptions due to switching techniques used, currently 1200 A solution have been developed as well. The transducer has their main advantage in the DC currents measurement showing a thermal drifts much better than Hall Effect based ones, and improving problem inherent to shunt resistors, because Premo transducer offer a isolated measurements. All this parameters have been reached with a adjust cost, that allows us to offer them with a very competitive prices to the industry.

This measurement device was conceived to offer a real alternative solution for industrial DC current measurements, focused to medium power plants and industrial machinery. In the same way, Premo transducers can be very useful for renewal energy plants, as photovoltaic ones. Additionally, transducer fulfill with the current directives regarding railways equipments. The applications in the healthcare devices or as feedback loop element sensor for power system control it shown very attractive as well.

A high level PREMO engineer’s team work has developed this product, Felipe Jerez, CTO, Pau Colomer, P&P IC, Victor Repecho, together with UPC engineers, Guillermo Velasco Quesada, Manuel Roman Lumbreras, y Raúl Pérez Delgado. Other product patented by PREMO are the low frequency three axes coil (3D coil) and the planar transformers.
PREMO forecast this product sale in 25 million euros for the 5 next years. Important companies like Semikron (Spain), Marke Elektronik (Turkey), JM Elektronik (Poland), Ineltek (Germany) have subscribed marketing agreement for this innovative technology and commercial agreement with companies in the United States and Japan are in process.
