A precision temperature controller has been introduced by Oven Industries. Designated the Model 5R7-388, this is a bi-directional control for independent thermoelectric modules or in conjunction with auxiliary or supplemental resistive heaters for both cooling and heating applications.

With a thermocouple temperature control range of -200 to +260°C (-328 to +500°F), the controllers suit temperature control applications in a variety of markets. The Model 5R7-388 features a bi-directional or unidirectional H-bridge configuration in order to create a seamless transition between heating and cooling as it commands the thermoelectric modules. Allowing bi-directional flow of current through the thermoelectric modules, highly efficient N-channel output devices are used for this control mode.

The included user friendly PC software makes it easy for the user to change control configurations through the RS232 interface which has 1500VAC isolation from the electronic circuitry virtually eliminating interference from noise or errant signals. The easily accessible communications link permits a variety of operational mode configurations, including field selectable parameters or data acquisition in a half duplex mode. This controller will accept a communications cable length in accordance with RS232 interface specifications. All parameter settings are retained in non-volatile memory.

Once the controller is set-up, the computer may be disconnected and the Model 5R7-388 becomes a unique, stand alone controller. Alternatively, the computer can remain connected for data acquisition.

Oven Industries also supplies a display accessory, (Model 5R6-576) with a 4 digit temperature read out, and a heat sink which is recommended for applications using 15A load or greater.
