In conjunction with SPS/IPC/Drives, Texas Instruments announces the support of POWERLINK, an open technology for industrial Ethernet, on Sitara AM335x ARM processors. By joining the Ethernet POWERLINK Standardization Group, TI strengthens its commitment to the industrial automation market and further expands its portfolio of multiprotocol industrial communications solutions.
Benefits of POWERLINK technology
The high-performance POWERLINK real-time communication solution is based on the IEEE 802.3 Ethernet standard designed to ensure real-time data transfer in the microsecond range. Its scalability and its ability to integrate all types of systems make POWERLINK a perfect solution for any industry.

Benefits of TI Sitara ARM-based processors:
•Multiple, on-chip, production-ready, industrial Ethernet and fieldbus communication protocols eliminate the need for an external ASIC/FPGA and save 30 percent on BOM costs
•One scalable, low-power ARM Cortex-A8 processor platform (275 MHz to 720 MHz) for many different industrial automation applications, enabling extensive reuse
•Low Power process technology that allows implementation of industrial communication node with less than 500 mW

TI’s Sitara ARM portfolio with POWERLINK ideally fulfills the global market demand on processing platforms for industrial use, said Sebastian Sachse, Technology Marketing Manager for POWERLINK. Its excellent scalability and high processing power is an outstanding platform for a wide range of POWERLINK automation products such as PLCs, drives or sensors.”

“We’re excited to be a technology provider for POWERLINK and a member of EPSG,” said Peter Peisker, European Director Embedded Processing, TI. “TI has been focusing on open technologies for many years. Therefore the support of the POWERLINK open technology for industrial Ethernet is a good fit for us to extend our portfolio for industrial automation solutions.”
