Phihong USA has expanded its line of PoE extenders with a fully waterproof 4-port data and power extender that can operate up to four IEEE802.3af-compliant powered devices from a single Ethernet cable. Designated the POE61S-4AF, the extender takes its power from an ultra-power midspan (75W or greater) and has an IP67 rating to ensure its full functionality for outdoor applications such as security cameras, sensors and emergency lighting.
“Outdoor applications are a necessary component of any security network and we’ve developed a product that will extend the ease-of-installation of PoE devices to applications outside of a facility without needing to install AC wiring to difficult location saving considerable time and cost,” said Keith Hopwood, vice president of marketing for Phihong USA. “The POE61S-4AF is completely waterproof and can operate in wide temperature ranges making it ideal for bringing network power and data to a diverse array of environments without risk of damage.”

The POE61S-4AF detects 12.5K Internal Signature Resistance and must be powered by Ultra PoE (75W) or better. The unit has an output of 15.4W maximum per port and provides 10Mb/100Mb Base-T data rates. An output of 15W will allow for a drop of 2.45W in power loss over cables that may extend up to 100 meters from the extender.

The waterproof housing has an ingress protection rating of 67 allowing for full waterproof operation. Three ports on the front may connect to standard ¾ NPT conduit piping or users may choose to purchase Phihong’s compatible cable glands using the part number PGLAND750. Using outdoor compliant Cat5 Ethernet cables, users may power up to 4 applications such as security cameras up to 200 meters from the network switch without the need for external AC power to be installed.

The enclosure for the unit has an IP67 rating so it is waterproof and has three connectors in the front of the unit to wire the Ethernet cables through protective conduit piping. The POE61S-4AF may be placed up to 100m from the network switch and allows for an additional 100m of cable to be laid between the unit and the powered devices without any additional power outlets or DC cabling required.
