Aiming to improve the experience of patients staying in hospital, Avalue Technology has announced the launch of the AID-173 series panel PC. Target applications for the series include medical infotainment and point of care. Patients can make phone calls, play games, use the internet, watch or listen to multimedia, alert medical staff and call for assistance. It also allows medical staff to view electronic patient records and search for medical information, X-ray films or other documents.

The AID-173 series is currently offered in two variants: the AID-173SHR is equipped with Intel Core i7/i3/ Celeron series CPU and QM67 chipset (making it suitable for performance demanding applications); while the AID-173S utilises the Intel Atom N270 CUP and 945GSE chipset (providing lower power consumption but also lower performance).

Designed with industrial computing system standards and medical requirements in mind, the panel PC series features fanless operation for high reliability and low noise and front IP-65 panel sealing (water and dust-proof) for system protection and easy maintenance. Since it will be used by patients, Avalue has given the AID-173 series an anti-microbial finish and made it aesthetically pleasing with a full-flat panel, slim design, low-profile, round-cornered frame and soft white-blue colour.

The panel PC features a 17.3" touchscreen display with LED backlight that provides full HD 1920x1080 resolution. Designed with flexibility and expansion in mind, the AID-173 PCs feature: three mini PCI ports; four USB 2.0 interfaces; two 3.5mm Jack audio interfaces (one earphone and one mic); one HDMI output; one gigabit Ethernet port; one RS-232 port; one RS-232/422/485 port; one DVI output (AID-173S only) and one DisplayPort output (AID-173SHR).

The panel PCs support MSR, smartcard reader and RFID for security, identification, user authority, system control and management purposes. An integrated barcode scanner can be used for VOIP or as a remote for TV/radio.
