Inertial Aerosystems has announced the availability of a new low cost digital compass module manufactured by U.S. based Honeywell. Designated the HMR 3400 this innovative device is a three axis tilt compensated electronic compass with low power consumption. Incorporating Honeywell's established magnetorestive sensor technology coupled with a MEMS accelerometer to give a compact reliable tilt compensated compass, which provides compass headings as well as pitch and roll angles.
Included are provisions for hard and soft iron correction algorithms to handle magnetic distortion effects. The HMR 3400 has less than 1° nominal heading accuracy with 0.1 degree resolution with an update rate of up to 8Hz, with +/-60 degree pitch and roll. The operating temperature is -40 to 85° C and requires only 5V DC. The compass comes with a UART serial data interface and the industry standard Honeywell compass instruction set.

Ideal for use where space and weight are at a premium it measures 15.24mm x 25.43mm and weighs 3.75 grams. Designed for high volume OEM applications, the HMR3400 is available in Tape & Reel.

This versatile product can be used for measuring tilt/movement of machinery, robotics, unmanned vehicles, vessels and buildings as well as for applications in navigation, dead reckoning, personal and onboard navigation.
