Alpha Micro Components has available Teridian Semiconductor's new MicroPHY transceiver for embedded 10/100 Ethernet applications. Packaged in an ultra small 5mm x 5mm QFN package, the Teridian MicroPHY is said to be the World's smallest Fast Ethernet PHY. Targeted at consumer audio-video and industrial products the 78Q2123 features Hewlett Packard's "Auto-MDIX" technology whilst also providing a full 802.3 Media Independent Interface.
Designed to meet the growing demands of non-traditional networked applications, the 78Q2123 MicroPHY can be used with multiple application such as games consoles, set top boxes and digital TVs. Its compact size enables it to be used in embedded designs with limited space and its single 3.3V supply requirements eliminate the need for 1.8V regulators.

Christos Papakyriacou, Managing Director, Alpha Micro Components, comments: "Teridian Semiconductors has a long history in producing Ethernet PHY products. As Ethernet is now such an important medium for consumer and industrial applications, there is an increased demand for improved functionality without compromising on size. Teridian has managed to create a product 70% smaller than its main competitor whilst also eliminating many hardware control pins present on earlier PHY products."
