Swedish CAN hardware specialist Kvaser AB is pleased to announce two additions to its well-known Kvaser Leaf CAN to USB interface family, the Kvaser Leaf Pro HS v2 and Kvaser Leaf Pro HS v2 OBDII. This evolution of the Leaf family brings programmability to user’s fingertips, as well as CAN with Flexible Data-Rate (CAN FD).

The Leaf Pro is perhaps the easiest way to connect a computer to a CAN bus network by means of the standard USB interface and 9-pin D-SUB connector. Having made its name as the work-horse of USB to CAN interfaces, Kvaser’s Leaf interface family provide reliable, low cost tools for connecting any CAN network to a PC or mobile computer in applications as wide ranging as automotive, mining, marine, military, oil and gas exploration, industrial and heavy machinery.

Kvaser’s Pro versions boast a high transmit capability that meets the needs of CAN FD frames. The Kvaser Leaf Pro HS v2 transmits the 64 data bytes of a CAN FD frame at bit rates up to 8 Mbit/s, in addition to standard CAN frames of 8 bytes. With a maximum message rate of 20000 messages per second, each time-stamped with a one microsecond accuracy, this is a highly advanced, portable real-time CAN to USB interface that can be customised using Kvaser’s t programming language.

For example, users can run a t program to speed up file transfer protocols or to emulate ECUs and other devices by generating traffic and handling protocols. Commenting on the announcement, Lars-Berno Fredriksson, President, Kvaser AB, said: “Our best-selling interface just got better. CAN FD-capability and programmability make the Kvaser Leaf Pro HS v2 and Kvaser Leaf Pro HS v2 OBDII our most capable Leafs yet!”

Galvanic isolation is a standard feature of this sleek, ergonomically designed interface. With a 107cm long USB lead, and either a standard 9-pin DSUB or a 16-pin OBDII connector, the Kvaser Leaf Pro HS v2 and Kvaser Leaf Pro HS v2 OBDII suit a wide range of environments, from ECU development and test to in-the-field service situations.
