Delivering HD video over 500 meters on existing coaxial cable infrastructure, Exar has announced an HD Composite Video Interface (HDCVI) chipset. The XR5P900 single-channel encoder and XR5P920 four-channel decoder are fully compatible with other HDCVI products on the market as well as the HDCVI 2.0 standard administered by the HDcctv Alliance.

With the launch of Exar’s HDCVI chipset, video surveillance equipment design engineers now have a clear choice for cost-effective HD video components that adhere to a global open standard and are available from multiple suppliers.

The XR5P900 HDCVI single channel encoder delivers uncompressed 1080p HD video up to
30fps and 720p HD video up to
60fps as well as audio and control data over the same coaxial cable. The device also supports standard-definition video in NTSC or PAL formats for compatibility with existing systems. Video surveillance camera manufacturers can easily integrate the XR5P900 with an image signal processor or image sensor with a BT.1120 or BT.656 interface.

The four-channel HDCVI decoder, XR5P920, receives video, audio and control data from up to four HDCVI cameras then decodes and digitises the data for subsequent display, compression or transmission. The XR5P920 is also capable of receiving 960H or D1 CCTV inputs making the device a suitable solution for mixed standard- and high-definition systems or selective HD upgrades to existing CCTV installations.

Production samples of the XR5P900 and XR5P920 are available now.
