Two fanless, compact Cisco routing solutions have been released by Elma Electronic. The S50E-1, designed for use in harsh environments such as defence, mining, emergency services and disaster recovery operations, offers two routing ports and three switching ports in a SWaP-optimised, rugged chassis.

The S50E-2, which incorporates the same rugged design, features up to 25 additional ports for enhanced connectivity options. The functional and mechanical construction is modular, enabling custom configurations such as CPU options for complete mission systems as well as additional application specific I/O options and high capacity data storage.

Using the proven Cisco Enterprise IOS and Mobile Ready Net capabilities, the devices deliver highly secure data, voice and video communications to stationary and mobile nodes across wired and wireless links at the network edge. Cisco certified routing protocols enable nodes to quickly adapt to changing network topologies and establish ad hoc networks as nodes move in and out of a fixed network infrastructure.

Radio aware routing and dynamic link control protocols ensure reliable, efficient routing for critical data delivery in real-time, time-sensitive applications. While the use of the familiar Cisco IOS software eases training expenses, Elma’s experience in small form factor system design and embedded computing helps to keep integration costs low while delivering rugged, high performance computing platforms.
