Intersil has introduced the ISL3159E and ISL3179E RS-485/RS-422 transceivers. These next-generation interface ICs combine 40Mbps transmission performance over the industry’s widest temperature range (-40C to +125C) along with 15kV IEC61000 ESD protection and a DFN package option that is up to 70% smaller than standard 8-lead SOIC offerings.

CML Launches Low Cost, Low Bit-Rate RALCWI Vocoder IC
CML Microcircuits today announced the introduction of a new RALCWI (Robust Advanced Low Complexity Waveform Interpolation) vocoder IC. The product is the result of a co-operation between CML Microcircuits and SPIRIT DSP. The new CML IC is named as the CMX618, which CML will market to worldwide communication markets based upon SPIRIT’s proprietary Low Bit-Rate Vocoder technology. The co-operation combines CML’s 39-year history of developing mixed-signal semiconductors for professional and leisure communication applications, with SPIRIT’s extensive experience in embedded voice products.

Low-cost WLED drivers help handset manufactures address latest entry level markets
A huge potential market of untapped cell phone users in regions like India, China, Russia, South America and Africa want cell phone service, but can only afford very basic, entry-level, reduced-feature-set phones. With AnalogicTech’s AAT3193, designers building cell phones for these new markets can provide basic illumination for low-cost TFT-LCD panels in an extremely small footprint while requiring just two external components; a 1µF capacitor for the charge pump and a single external resistor to set the full-scale LED current.

Gigabit fibre access gateway solutions
PMC-Sierra has announced the availability of two fibre access gateway solutions - the MSP7150 EPON/GPON gateway SoC for Fibre To The Home (FTTH) and the MSP7140 VDSL2 gateway SoC for Fibre To The Node (FTTN). These SoCs deliver gigabit-per-second line-rate IPV4/V6 routing, Network Address Translation (NAT), Quality of Service (QoS), encryption and a multi-channel VoIP terminal adaptor, and consume less than 1.5W of power. PMC-Sierra’s fibre access gateway solutions provide OEMs and ODMs with a common platform architecture to support multiple high-speed access technologies in various geographic markets. In addition, service providers can rely on equipment based on PMC-Sierra’s multi-service platform to deliver carrier-grade IP services into the digital home.

VDSL2 line driver in 4mm x 5mm QFN package is a first says Intersil
Intersil has introduced the ISL1539, the latest addition to its family of line drivers featuring low power, very small footprint and extremely good linearity. The ISL1539 is the first monolithic, dual port, DSL line driver for 100 Mbps VDSL2 Central Office (CO) applications. The ISL1539 uses proprietary circuitry to achieve low distortion, high capacitance drive and less than 910mW/port total power consumption while delivering 20.5dBm output power in 5-band VDSL2 applications. The driver uses Intersil’s own new high-speed bipolar process technology to extend the performance of ADSL2, ADSL2+ and VDSL2 bandwidth high voltage line drivers.

Texas Instruments has introduced a low-phase noise clock generator that provides best-in-class jitter performance at 380 femtoseconds (fs) (rms at 10 kHz to 20 MHz). The device incorporates crystal oscillator (XO) circuitry with a fully-integrated frequency synthesizer supporting a wide output frequency range from 10.9 MHz up to 766.7 MHz and from 875.2 MHz up to 1175 MHz, easing design for customers designing Ethernet, fibre channel, PCI Express and Serial ATA products.

Texas Instruments has today introduced the industry's smallest low-power, single-channel Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) serializer/deserializer (SerDes) device, enabling higher densities in data communications and telecommunications equipment. The new interface device combines a small 6-mm x 6-mm package with low power consumption at 200 mW to reduce board size and complexity and save power in Ethernet passive optical networks (EPON), GbE switches/routers and wireless basestations.

Two-chip IF receiver solution from Analog Devices
Analog Devices has introduced a two-chip IF (intermediate frequency) receiver solution that dramatically improves the data bandwidth and capacity of next-generation, multi-carrier wireless base stations compatible with emerging 3G cellular transmission standards. Analog Devices’ dual-channel AD8376 VGA (variable gain amplifier) and AD6655 IF diversity receiver solution replaces 48 discrete components, enabling 3G micro- and pico-cell base stations with dramatically reduced power consumption and physical volume. Each radio channel can handle up to six carriers. The new VGA and IF diversity receiver also increase automatic gain-control loop performance by 100 times existing options, which improves base station receiver sensitivity and dynamic range and ensures both weak and strong incoming cell phone call signals are quickly and effectively received and processed.
