Analog Devices has announced the availability of its second-generation chipset for developers of advanced multimedia mobile handsets based on the 3G TD-SCDMA Low Chip Rate (LCR) air interface. The new SoftFone-LCR+ chipset expands Analog Devices’ portfolio of TD-SCDMA technology solutions and builds upon the company’s legacy as a leader in TD-SCDMA technology development by adding support for a wide range of enhanced multimedia functions.

Texas Instruments has introduced the expansion of its FlatLinkTM3G family of high-speed interface integrated circuits that transmit true 24-bit (16 million color) RGB color data for high-resolution video content in handheld electronics such as clamshell phones, multimedia players and digital cameras. The new one- and two-channel subLVDS (sub-low voltage differential signaling) serialisers and deserialisers support LCD resolutions from QVGA to XGA, including VGA, allowing designers to choose devices that specifically meet their resolution needs.

Available from DT Electronics, SMSC’s LAN9218 is a full-featured, single-chip 10/100 Ethernet controller that uses HP’s Auto-MDIX technology. HP Auto-MDIX eliminates the confusion associated with device pin assignments, the need to add a manual MDIX switch or use cross-over cables. The LAN9128 is driver-, register- and footprint –compatible with the previous generation of LAN9118 devices. Designed for embedded applications where performance, flexibility, ease of integration and system cost reduction are required, the LAN9218 suits applications in high definition video and multimedia systems.

Based on an advanced multimedia gateway processor, these platforms give manufacturers the flexibility to design RGs with multiple home networking options and variations of feature functionality, including enhanced voice capabilities and advanced video services, over all ADSL and VDSL2 standards.

IDT has announced the introduction of a jitter attenuator optimized for the Xilinx Virtex-4 family of FPGAs. Designed to support PCI Express (PCIe), this component is said to be the industry’s first timing device capable of attenuating or “cleaning” the jitter from a 100 MHz PCIe input clock, while translating it to a 250 MHz LVDS output.

DT Electronics has made available Exar's family of dual universal asynchronous receiver transmitters (DUARTS) that operate from a 1.62V to 3.63V supply and feature 16, 32 or 64-byte FIFOs. Designated the M-series, each channel of these devices is capable of data rates up to 16 MBps at 3.3V with a 4X sampling clock.

Frontier Silicon has launched a new advanced and highly integrated system-on-chip IC which will enable the next generation of DAB digital radio-based products. The Chorus 2 FS1020 chip is a new programmable DAB baseband receiver providing significant space, cost and power savings on a typical radio or mobile handheld devices. The chip is now in mass production and products using the chip will appear in the market early 2007.
