Molex Incorporated has announced that its comprehensive SL (Stackable Linear) Modular Connector System is available in tape-and-reel packaging with pick-and-place vacuum caps. The updated system enables the use of an automated termination procedure to facilitate high-speed processing and accurate placement on the printed circuit board (PCB).

The SL family of connectors offers a modular approach that is ideal for low-power and signal wire-to-board and wire-to-wire applications in a range of industries including consumer electronics, medical, automotive and home appliances.

“As electronics become more prevalent in everything from consumer goods to automotive systems, contract manufacturers are constantly being challenged to produce more devices at lower costs,” said Niki Taylor, product manager, Molex. “Not only does Molex have the most extensive number of modular connector variations and cabling configurations in the industry, but our new tape-and-reel packaging can be used in high-volume equipment to decrease labour and drive down costs.”

The SL Modular Connector System includes a positive-lock mating interface to ensure secure retention with receptacles in high-vibration environments and the terminal position assurance (TPA) lock Increases terminal pull-out force and reduces the risk of terminal back-out. The connector family provides maximum flexibility thanks to several distinct features including a low-profile stackable housing design; vertical and right-angle headers; a selection of wire-connection options including discrete-wire-crimp, FFC and IDT termination and board mountable headers in various termination styles.

Because the terminals feature two independent points of contact the connection offers a redundant, secondary current path for long-term electrical performance and reliability. Additionally, the 2.54mm pitch provides compatibility with select C-Grid and KK 2.54mm pitch product families, further increasing the number of configurations.
