A new photovoltaic junction box interface designed for thin film photovoltaic modules is now available in the UK from Quadrant. This is the first of a range of products under development for the rapidly growing renewable energy market from Telegärtner Gerätebau GmbH, a company within the Telegärtner group.

The junction box is the interface between the glass module containing the semiconductor working unit and the inverter and links the conducting tab at the rear of the module to the cabling infrastructure leading to the inverter.

With a profile of only 11mm the junction box is smaller and less expensive than existing interfaces of this type and a unique mating system halves the assembly time. Assembly can be either manual or automatic and multi-finger contacts provide a larger mating surface and improved electrical contact.

Fitted with a UV resistant cable that is suitable for mounting in small channels, the maximum current rating of the junction box is 10 A and the maximum system voltage is 300 V. Protected to IP65, the housing material is PPO , the insulation material TPE and contact connectors are tin-plated stainless steel. Contact resistance is less than 5 mohm and the operating temperature range -35°C to + 90°C.
