Designed for use in high port-count gigabit switches and routers, Molex has announced the introduction of PoE+ Enabled Gigabit Multi-port Magnetic RJ45 modules. Available in 8- (2x4) and 12-port (2x6) versions, the magnetic RJ45 modules provide gigabit data and enable delivery of PoE+ 30W power to networked end devices.

Capable of 10/100/1000Mb transmission, the multi-port magnetic jacks are IEEE802.3 compliant; with an industry-standard footprint, they are drop-in replacement and provide switch manufacturers with a reliable source for the industry. The Gigabit magnetics within the modules are compatible with a variety of Gigabit Ethernet transceiver PHYs. The magnetic jacks feature two single- or bi-colour LEDs per port, which support a full range of customer LED configuration requirements. Extended temperature connector options are also available.

PoE defines the transmission of both data and power to networked devices over a standard Ethernet cable, eliminating the need for separate power supplies. PoE+ ( IEEE 802.3at) provides the opportunity for switch manufacturers to increase port-power output to 30W. The specification of PoE+ (IEEE 802.3at) standard is backward compatible, supporting legacy PoE (IEEE 802.3af) devices.

Pat Tunn, Product Manager, Integrated Products Division, Industrial Products Group, Molex, comments: “The Molex PoE+ Enabled Gigabit Multi-port Magnetic RJ45 modules are delivered fully optimised and pre-tested. This results in lower component placement costs, improved production yields and easier EMI qualification for the customer.”
