Chomerics offers a portfolio of thermal and EMI shielding products able to overcome the challenges of demanding military applications. Extreme environmental conditions and extended life expectancy are among the unique demands of military projects. Parts are typically subjected to greater extremes of temperature as well as vibration, salt and chemicals. In many instances, they also have to endure a longer working lifecycle.

To ensure peace of mind for buyers when specifying thermal and EMI shielding products, military grade elastomers from Chomerics Europe, a division of Parker Hannifin, are tested in accordance with the industry benchmark MIL-G-83528 standard. This provides customers with the reassurance that the material is fit for the purpose.

Another advantage for military customers is that Chomerics will remain tooled for the perceived length of the product lifecycle, so that both new build and Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) requirements can be met without delay or additional tooling expense.

Of course, cost and availability are prime considerations in all sectors, but these are exacerbated in the military sector, where ITAR (International Traffic in Arms) regulations come into play. However, customers can rest assured that all products within the Chomerics catalogue are exempt from ITAR regulations. What’s more, if the component is manufactured in the UK, such as a moulded gasket for example, this would also be ITAR exempt. As a result, military customers can pursue COTS initiatives safe in the knowledge that no regulations are being contravened.

This is good news in a sector where large, high level projects have remained fairly well funded by governments around the world. Here, due to the complexities of many projects, there is growing emphasis on the provision of engineering applications support. At Chomerics, this function enables customers to gain information and recommendations on material selection and best practice design. The company also boasts an extensive R&D function, which allows the modification of material formulations to suit specific customer requirements.
