ITAC Systems is offering its Panel-J Joystick for use in aggressive environments where airborne or process contaminants, or the extensive use of cleaning solutions, would make other pointing/input devices unviable.
Typical applications include industrial process control, food processing, mining/quarrying/paper-milling, marine, medical and many similar uses.

The Panel-J Joystick is designed as a low profile sub-panel, with four welded studs on industry standard fixing centres, to allow for direct fascia mounting (or retro-fitting) into the panels typically found in process control equipment. The contactless, inductive-sensing joystick, which is omni-directional and self-centring, is fitted into a brushed, stainless steel fascia panel that also features three rugged stainless steel buttons. The unit has an IP65 (NEMA 4) rating and provides PS/2 and USB outputs for connection to a host computer.

The Panel-J Joystick can be ordered in a number of configurations. For example, the buttons, normally set for left, middle and right operation, can be wired in a different order or enabled for latching operation. DIP switches, located on the circuit board, allow for alternate panel orientations and other settings and there is also a facility to connect additional buttons or an external scroll wheel. The unit is shipped, as standard, with a 2-metre cable but other cables are available as accessories.
