A high-efficiency, brushless DC fan, which is driven directly from an AC power supply, has been released by SUNON. With only 4.4W, the EC Axial Fan reduces power consumption by approximately 80% compared with conventional AC fans and by up to 35% compared to other competing EC fans. The device is suitable for refrigerators, freezers, wine chillers and any commercial refrigeration equipment.

On request, the fan is available with IP68 water and dust protection. EC technology is based on a DC motor that has an integrated AC to DC converter. The device, which consumes 70% less power than an AC shade pole motor, offers multi-speed control, a low acoustic level and a long motor life in a compact solution.

The EC Axial Fan is available in two sizes: 120x38mm and 250x78mm. The former is suitable for small cooling fans, while the latter is suitable for larger evaporator/condenser fans, allowing for high/low speed switching with day and night operation via customer control circuit.

According to DoE research, evaporator fan shutdown is a leading technology that will be very efficient for energy savings for refrigerators. Applying EC fans to refrigerators will be a key success factor in reducing total power loss. In 2015, power-saving refrigerators were included within ENERGY STAR´s Most Efficient Criteria programme, which is dedicated to identifying highly-efficient products in the marketplace.
