Retex UK has launched a range of hand-held enclosures which offer OEMs fast installation, EMI / RFI shielding and a wide breadth of customisation options. The entire range has been designed to offer maximum internal wiring space and includes key-fob enclosures, accommodation for membrane keypads, wall mountable solutions and aluminium enclosures.
The range of EMI / RFI protected hand-held enclosures from Retex UK has been developed to offer quick and effective protection for a broad spectrum of hand-held electronic devices. The product range is split into six groups, all of which offer unique functionality, a range of sizes and bespoke customisation opportunities. With a standard operating temperature of 85˚C and IP levels up to IP65, most applications can be accommodated within the range.

The Betabox offers a universal design which is suitable for many different applications. Available in two different sizes (105mm x 61mm x 28mm or 145mm x 80mm x 34mm) the lid is recessed to allow a membrane keypad to sit flush with the edges and internal pillars for PCB assemblies which makes installation quicker and finished unit more robust. The enclosures are manufactured from high impact ABS and incorporate a battery compartment which is accessed via a snap on lid on the base of the unit.

The Series 31 is a small, robust enclosure with bevelled and round edges to make it comfortable to carry in your hand or your pocket. It is available in two basic sizes (55mmx 40mm x 18mm or 70mm x 50mm x 20mm) though the smaller size is available with a key ring lug which extends the length a further 5mm. They feature a recessed lid which accommodates a three of six button keypad depending on size. A neoprene gasket joint is available to provide IP65 protection where required.

The Series 32 and Series 33 enclosures feature an aesthetic design which includes gently curved edges for improved ergonomics when held in the hand. They both offer a unique and functional snap-fit design which speeds up installation and features recesses in the lid, bottom, front and rear of the unit for complete flexibility when mounting membrane keypads. Internal pillars are included for easy PCB assembly and a neoprene gasket joint is available to provide the enclosure with IP65 protection where necessary.

While the Series 32 offers a range of dimensions from 100mm x 75mm x 20mm to 120mm x 75mm x 30mm, the Series 33 is slightly larger at 145mm x 95mm x 25mm to 200mm x 120mm x 40mm. The Series 33 also boasts rubberised corners for extra protection against knocks and additional grip. Both are available with a choice of colour combinations.

For portable commanders (air conditioning control units etc.), machine-attached controls or register surfaces, the Series 40 offers an ergonomic shape with high internal volume and a battery compartment with separation walls for two AA or AAA batteries of a single PP3 battery. The enclosure can be customised to accommodate membrane keypads of varying sizes and LCD displays where required.

For applications which will be subjected to more extreme environments, the Series 50, is constructed from aluminium and screws shut for added security. Plastic caps on either end cover the screws for protection and provide an extra degree of shock protection in the event that the enclosure is dropped. An optional battery compartments and neoprene gasket joint are available upon request. Sizes vary between 130mm x 82mm x 27mm and 220mm x 122mm x 47mm.
