Design engineers can now create solutions with significantly more advanced functionality and connectivity while saving time and design costs by utilising the certified WiLink 8 module from Texas Instruments (TI) combined with i.MX6 processors from Freescale. Available from Arrow Electronics, this new module provides users with the best of both worlds: it enables Wi-Fi and Bluetooth combo-connectivity in a single package which can be added to embedded applications.

The Freescale i.MX6 embedded processors offer functionality for a broad range of applications including industrial, medical, automotive, transportation, connected home, security and consumer. This unique reference design also addresses the growing application needs of the Internet of Things enabling connectivity, data management and data visualisation.

This combination solution from Arrow means that the WiLink 8 module can deliver superior quality wireless connectivity combined with high-performance industry recognised embedded technology. The combination of i.MX6 with WiLink 8 in this reference design offers an integrated solution that is straightforward to install. The designer benefits by being able to minimise build time, speeding up the finished product's time-to-market.

WiLink 8 modules are easy to connect to platforms using secure digital and multi-media cards (SD/MMC). Additionally, build guidelines and packages are available for developers working with Linux and Android operating systems while third party support is available for those interested in RTOS or WinCE.

The package, available from Arrow Electronics, also includes an RF tests tool, a Bluetooth stack with BT4.0 and BLE profiles and a kit that bridges between i.MX6 popular platforms and WiLink 8 modules. Among the platforms supported are Sabre, Solo-light and RIOT.
