Kontron has announced the KTQ67/Flex-MED motherboard at Medica 2013. Featuring two EN60601-1 compliant isolated Ethernet ports, the standard Flex-ATX boards provide a long-term availability of 7 years. As well as the isolated LAN ports, the KTQ67/Flex-MED features 2 DVI interfaces which can drive medical imaging tasks on two HD monitors.

With scalable performance across the complete range of the powerful dual core and quad core desktop CPUs from Intel´s 3rd generation Core processors, the motherboard can easily be tailored to a broad range of individual performance needs. Available in volume productions, the KTQ67/Flex-MED medical motherboards have made sourcing and configuration for System Integrators and Hospital IT departments an even easier and more convenient task.

Customers just need to choose an appropriate standard housing to finalize their individual system configuration to deploy a medical PC. They do not need to add an extra add-on card or cover the cost of a customized board design to achieve EN13485-compliance or obtain galvanic isolated Gigabit Ethernet interfaces. With optimised supply chain management and reduced bill of materials costs, customers can benefit from a significant reduction in the total cost of ownership.

Kontron's first medical motherboard, the KTQ67/Flex-MED is ideal for a multitude of graphics and/or processing intensive medical applications. This includes those applications found in nearly all healthcare environments ranging from diagnostic work stations through to computers in operating theatres, at nursing stations and in consulting rooms, right up to bedside applications. Kontron intend this motherboard to be deployed as a back-end processing block and as a GUI controller for a variety of medical devices including stationary and semi-mobile ultrasound scanners, MRI and CT in OEM equipment.

Available for OEMS to order in smaller quantities, the dedicated medical motherboard can be used by Hospital IT departments to manage the computer equipment connected to the medical device grids on their own. Featuring EN 60601-1 compliant LAN, the new medical motherboard also targets the huge market of medical PCs that are deployed directly by IT specialists in hospitals, rehab and medical centers. All customers, OEMs and end-users benefit from a broader customer base, improved support and better economies of scale.

Based on the Intel Q67 System Controller Hub, the KTQ67/Flex-MED motherboard connects two independent displays via DVI and offers up to 32 GB DDR3 RAM. Other I/O ports include 12x USB 2.0 interfaces and 6x SATA interfaces (4x SATA150/300 and 2x SATA600) with SW RAID support (RAID 0/1/5/10) for storage media.

With a unique multi-purpose Feature Connector supporting up to 160 GPIOs, there are PCIe x16, PCIe x4 and PCI 32bit (2x) slots available for expansion cards. Based on more PCB layers than are normally found in conventional consumer motherboards, the KTQ67/Flex-MED offers excellent signal qualities and optimised electromagnetic compatibility.

Available now, the new Kontron medical motherboard KTQ67/Flex-MED supports Microsoft Windows as well as various Linux distributions. RTOS support is available on request.
