Uptime Institute Tier IV design certification for the Burst data centre project in Myanmar has been achieved by Flexenclosure and Burst Myanmar. Tier IV is the most stringent design certification in terms of redundancy, fault tolerance and availability and it represents a major milestone in the industry, as it is the first data centre ever to be Tier IV design certified in Myanmar and only the fifth such design certification in all of Southeast Asia.

A full turnkey eCentre implementation, the new facility by Flexenclosure is a custom-designed prefabricated modular data centre building that is fast to deploy, energy efficient and easy to expand. The 220m2, 68 rack data centre will be built in the Thilawa Special Economic Zone (SEZ) on the outskirts of Yangon and is the anchor of the planned Burst teleport, which will enjoy over 150Gbps of international connectivity and support a domestic VSAT and WiFi mesh network to be deployed nationwide. The result will be a nationwide network offering a broad range of services to enterprise, SME and third-party provider clients.

Fully fault-tolerant

The Uptime Institute Tier IV classification is the data centre industry’s most stringent in terms of redundancy, fault tolerance and availability. Tier IV criteria are founded on the capability to detect and isolate a fault within a facility’s critical systems while sustaining the critical load as well as the delivery of power and cooling to critical areas. Tier IV facilities are typically built to host mission critical systems. All Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems are independently dual-powered for redundancy and site infrastructure is fully fault-tolerant.

First ever Tier IV facility in Myanmar

“Burst is excited to have the first Tier IV design certification in Myanmar and could not have achieved this level of excellence without the hard work, technical know-how and dedication to the project, to which Flexenclosure committed,” said Daniel Michener, CEO, Burst Networks.

Michener continued: “We simply could not have chosen a better partner to support us in the design certification process with Uptime Institute. We look forward to working with Flexenclosure to achieve our next milestone in the Thilawa SEZ, which is a Tier IV Certified Constructed Facility award, which when achieved, will be only the second such certification in Southeast Asia.”

John Duffin, Managing Director South Asia for Uptime Institute commented: “We are pleased to congratulate Burst and Flexenclosure on the first Uptime Institute Tier IV design certification in Myanmar.”

“Uptime Institute’s Design Certification is the first step in the certification process, and serves as an important milestone to achieving the Tier Certified Constructed Facility award which will clearly demonstrate that the data centre has been built to the same rigorous standard We very much look forward to working together on the next phase of construction and applaud Burst and Flexenclosure as they seek to achieve the next critical certification for a Tier IV constructed facility,” Duffin added.

“Following our recent completion of Paraguay’s first-ever Tier III facility, we are delighted to announce the first ever Tier IV design certified data centre in Myanmar,” said Shalini Lagrutta, Regional Director, Asia, Flexenclosure. “Together with our close partner Burst we have taken a major step towards delivering the ultimate in data centres for Myanmar and it is another proof point that our eCentre product is the perfect choice when deploying mission critical facilities in the most challenging of scenarios.”
