Plessey announced recently that it raised £8,313 on 3rd September for Prostate Cancer UK with its 105-mile Tour of Devon. The 28 participants started and completed near the Plessey facilities in Plymouth on the edge of Dartmoor National Park in South Devon. The cycle route took them through Tavistock, Okehampton, Exeter, Bovey Tracy and Widecombe-in-the-Moor and included the Mamhead and Haytor climbs.

The annual, corporate hospitality and charity tour raised awareness and funds for Prostate Cancer UK, a charity fighting to help more men survive prostate cancer and enjoy a better quality of life. Prostate cancer currently affects 330,000 men in the UK and kills one man every hour. While it is already the most common cancer in men, it is predicted to become the most common of all cancers in the UK by 2030. The funds raised will help to provide support and information to men and their families, fund research into the causes and treatments of the disease, and campaign to give men's health the prominence it needs.

Sabine Poppelmann, Communications and Customer Care Manager, Plessey, said, "This is our second time running this event and it has generated a lot of interest, with some of the cyclists travelling all the way from London, Bristol and Manchester to participate in the tour. Last year, Plessey raised over £2,700 in aid of Prostate Cancer UK and are thrilled to have tripled that amount this year. The company are very proud of Team Plessey for completing the event and helping to raise the donation."

Mark Bishop, Director of Fundraising, Prostate Cancer UK, said: "What Team Plessey has done for Prostate Cancer UK is a fantastic demonstration of what we call Men United, people coming together to fight this terrible disease. They have not just raised money, but have raised awareness of the disease too. We would like to thank everybody involved in achieving this amazing donation."

The cycling specialists Evans Cycles in Plymouth provided a service station for safety checks for all the company employees and corporate clients participating in the event. The company Budget Car and Van Rental, also based in Plymouth, sponsored support vehicles that ensured safety and support for the riders along the route.
