Solyndra International AG, a subsidiary of Solyndra LLC, which manufactures cylindrical photovoltaic (PV) systems for large commercial rooftops, today announced that the Solyndra 200 Series products have been accepted as eligible for the French simplified building integrated solar photovoltaic (BIPV) tariff due to their unique design and synergy with rooftop construction.

The self-ballasted, non-attached Solyndra systems meet with previous wind and fire standards and can withstand winds up to 208km/h on slightly tilted rooftops. The Solyndra system is also Broof (t3) classified, one of very few photovoltaic systems rated to this class, which has become important to the solar market in France.

“This is a great milestone for Solyndra, highlighting how our unique solution works in synergy with, and gains power from the rooftop, and we look forward to working with our customers to help them take advantage of this forward looking government decision,” said Clemens Jargon, Solyndra’s president EMEA. “We have several installations larger than one megawatt in France and we expect this new tariff scheme will help our customers to further adopt solar power and lead to exciting further growth of France’s green energy market.”

Solyndra serves the French market from an office in Marseille and has sold more than 3.4MW of systems in the country.
