The AMA Association for Sensors and Measurement polls its 480 members on the economic development every quarter. After a slight drop in revenue of 1% in the second quarter, the AMA members showed a further slight drop of 1% compared to the previous quarter. Compared to the results of the third quarter of 2014, the AMA members realised a gain in turnover of 3%. At the same time, the sensor industry shows stable orders incoming with a rise of 1%.

Thus, the expectations of the AMA members were not met. They reckoned with an increase in turnover of 4% for the third quarter. However, the sensor and measurement industry proves to be robust, according to Thomas Simmons, General Manager, AMA Association: “We’re seeing a consistently stable lateral movement at a high level for the sensor and measuring industry, particularly in view of the crisis in 2009.

"At present, some of the markets are shifting, especially those in Eastern Europe and China, which are currently in a transformation process. Based on their own accounts, 22% of our members mainly supply the construction and engineering industries and 19% supply the automotive industry. Both of these branches of industry are currently subject to turbulences, impacting our markets. Nevertheless, we’re confident and expect growth for next year, which however may be slighter than that of the very successful previous years.”
