Plessey EPIC Sensor Technology wins NMI R&D Achievement Award

Plessey Semiconductors’ Electric Potential Integrated Circuit (EPIC) sensor technology won the R&D Achievement Award at the NMI Gala Dinner and Industry Awards celebration held on 3rd November 2011 at the Wyndham Grand Chelsea Harbour, London. The NMI is the trade association for the Electronic Systems, Microelectronics and Semiconductor sectors and presents awards to recognise the achievements and behaviours that are conducive to a healthy and vibrant industry in the UK and Ireland.
The R&D Achievement Award celebrates innovative R&D activity involving strong Industry and Academic collaboration, demonstrating “World Class” technology development with a high potential of becoming a commercially successful technology.

According to the judges, “The revolutionary EPIC Sensor involved exemplary collaboration between Plessey and their UK University partner, the University of Sussex. The technology break through sensor is highly stable, extremely sensitive, contact-less and can measure tiny changes in the electric field down to milliVolts. The impressive integration and product development work being done by Plessey now opens up a huge range of possible applications and new markets for this new technology and demonstrates a clear potential for wide commercialization.”
