On June 3rd, 2013 at the Design Automation Conference hosted in Austin, Texas, ARM officially announces its invitation for Nuvoton Technology to become its first university program partner, located in the Asia Pacific region. As part of the DAC proceedings, ARM will feature Nuvoton’s ARM Cortex-M microcontroller learning and development platform in demonstrations.
After launching the first ARM Cortex M0 32-bit microcontroller in Taiwan (the second such product in the world) in 2010, Nuvoton grew at a rapid pace due to rising demands in applicable markets such as industrial control, consumer electronics, automation, high speed computing, and communications control and its outstanding cost and price performance ratio for 32-bit microcontroller products. More than 50 million microcontrollers were shipped by mid-2013, making Nuvoton a world-leading supplier of ARM Cortex M0 32-bit microcontrollers.

Nuvoton is aware that corporate operations are more than just revenue performance. Concrete actions should also be taken to implement corporate social responsibility. Thus, a university program was initiated in 2011 to actively nurture engineers with innovative ideas for the next generation.

Through providing the Nuvoton ARM Cortex M microcontroller instruction platform for education, along with the related software development environments, drivers, and applications for university and college students in the Asia Pacific region and beyond to study from free of charge, students will be able to access embedded microcontroller system design courses combined with practical lab exercises in the future. This will allow students to understand contemporary trends in the technology industry while working with state-of-the-art technology within the industry during their studies at school.

Vice president of Nuvoton’s Microcontroller Applications Business Group, Stephen Huang stated the ARM Cortex M series 32-bit microcontroller is the mainstream product in today’s industry. Making this knowledge available to students during their studies at university allows them to transition into the industry seamlessly after graduation. In addition to giving students a significant boost in employment and competitive advantages, we also hope that they will develop innovative products through these learning and development tools, which will dazzle the next generation in this ever-changing world. Meanwhile, Nuvoton will utilize this university program to continually watch and promote industry-academic cooperation as well as aid students in employment transitions to fulfill our social responsibility”.

Nuvoton’s principles are in line with ARM University Program. This has spurred another kind of partnership between Nuvoton and ARM this time, outside of business cooperation.

“ARM is pleased to be collaborating with Nuvoton to help future engineers access the high performance, low power and design flexibility of ARM Powered microcontrollers,” said Khaled Benkrid, manager, Worldwide University Program, ARM. “The ARM University Program’s low-cost hardware platforms, excellent free teaching materials and software development tools make the latest ARM Cortex-M processor technology available to universities worldwide. We want students to be able to access the ARM ecosystem and develop the low-power, high-performance and low-cost solutions that our increasingly connected world is demanding.”

The ARM University Program provides its training material and software tools, including the Keil Micro-controller Development Kit Software Tools, free of charge to qualifying institutions to support teaching, laboratory work and educational research projects.
