The all-new Smart Cities Forum and an evolved Light & Health Forum will advance thought leadership across the spectrum of lighting and technology in the 2018 LIGHTFAIR Conference in Chicago at McCormick Place 6th-10th May, 2018 (Pre-Conference LIGHTFAIR Institute: 6th-7th May; Trade Show & Conference: 8th-10th).

Both Forums take place on 9th May, and they each offer six sessions of knowledge revolving around these dynamic topics. Forum sessions are available as a package or à la carte. They are a part of the full LIGHTFAIR Conference program that offers 72 courses for 2018 ranging from 60 minutes to two days in length.

The Smart Cities Forum explores how smart cities are leading lighting into the IoT where lighting enables digital technologies critical to the expansion of city services. It informs on relevant protocols, artificial intelligence, data analysis, case studies and more.

Participants will see how smart cities are leading the way to a connected future. The Smart Cities Forum is sponsored by ARROW ELECTRONICS, Booth 214.

The Smart Cities Forum will begin with a breakfast presentation by the forum sponsor, ARROW ELECTRONICS, and then a full day of sessions including:

  • Lighting and beyond: The pragmatic use of Artificial Intelligence in smart cities
  • Street and area lighting limbo
  • The smart city protocol to control streetlights, parking, waste and many other use cases
  • The evolution of smart cities 2.0 from A to Z
  • From data to information: using data to make informed building decisions
  • The Chicago smart lighting program: bringing outdoor lighting into the 21st century

Speakers represent a variety of sources including Lutron Electronics, Echelon Corporation, Smart Outdoor Lighting Alliance (SOLA), Chicago Infrastructure Trust, Chicago Department of Transportation, Chicago Department of Innovation & Technology, Chicago Mayor's Office, Cimcon Lighting Inc. and TALQ Consortium.

The Light & Health Forum will return for its third year with all-new courses. Light has been shown to impact humans well beyond providing for optimal visual performance. This forum continues to explore the non-visual effects of light not only on humans, but also plants and wildlife. Current knowledge of the impact of light on biological health and overall well-being will be addressed with more detailed exploration into some of the new metrics and design guidelines that are shaping circadian lighting applications. The Light & Health Forum is sponsored by VISA LIGHTING, Booth 2061.

The Light & Health Forum will begin with a breakfast presentation by the forum sponsor, VISA LIGHTING, and then a full day of sessions including:

  • The truth about Circadian lighting 2.0
  • Lighting metrics for well-being: characterising visual and non-visual responses
  • Seeing red: how long-wavelength lght can impact humans, plants and animals
  • How to do tunable WELL: points, pitfalls and potential
  • Circadian lighting solutions for office work places
  • Starving for darkness - how exterior lighting affects our wildlife

Speakers represent a variety of sources including Horton Lees Brogden Lighting Design, Stantec, CT Lighting Sales, Lutron Electronics, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Delos, Lighting Research Center at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, RAB Lighting and BIOS Lighting.

New for 2018, Forum participants will have access to a digital version of the sessions they attend after the Conference for future viewing. All LIGHTFAIR Conference registrants have the option to purchase a digital version of the Forum sessions.
