Schaffner has announced a new range of EMC/EMI filters for use with photvoltaic solar energy inverters. The use of efficient EMC/EMI filters on the DC output side of PV inverters contributes significantly to compliance with the EMC directive and increases system reliability.
The new FN 2200 standard range of filters for PV inverters is the result of combining leading-edge technology with years of application specific experience in this specialist market. These innovative filters are optimised for the requirements of photovoltaic systems and now offer a standard solution for solar energy system builders, based on Schaffner’s extensive application experience with custom designed filters for PV systems.

When used in conjunction with appropriately sized EMC/EMI filters on the mains side, the new FN 2200 DC filters help to meet the limits of EN 61000 and other binding EMC standards. Such standards are frequently required for PV installations in Europe and other regions. Further, they help to increase the service life of the solar panel, improve its reliability, and reduce potential interference radiations away from the panel by keeping inverter-born high frequency and leakage currents away.

The new FN 2200 filters require up to 30% less installation space compared to traditional solutions. They also ensure minimum power loss of <0.0008% related to the rating of the inverter and thus helps to maximize the complete PV system efficiency.

FN 2200 is available with ratings from 25 to 1500A at 55°C and for voltages up to 1200VDC. Filters without filter capacitors to ground (FN 2200B) are available upon request. All models are UL, CSA, and ENEC approved and RoHS compliant.
