Garland Partners has announced the launch of its Moviemaker HD from Optibase. This new MPEG-2 PCI encoder is said to be the only single-chip, hardware-based card that can support 4:2:2 up to 150MBPS and has been designed for content creation, post-production, archiving and video on demand markets.
Moviemaker HD offers 1080i and 720p HD as well as SD resolutions and supports both 4:2:2 and 4:2:0 encoding. It has up to 4 AES-EBU stereo pairs, Dolby Digital stereo and Dolby 5.1 pass-through. Bit-rates up to 150Mbps are supported.

There are three versions are available. The Moviemaker HD Prime is a professional MPEG2 HD encoder supporting SD/HD-SDI video input, MPEG2 SD/HD encoding, as well as PCM and MPEG1 L2 audio. The Pro version has all the features of the Prime with additional support for Dolby Digital Stereo encoding and Dolby Digital 5.1 pass-through. The top of the range Moviemaker Max combines all the features of the Prime and the Pro with additional support for 4:2:2 encoding at 150Mbps.

This hardware-based HD encoder comes bundled with Optibase's 'MPEG Composer’ software, a comprehensive and powerful encoding management application, allowing full control over the HD content encoding process. A powerful SDK is also available for developing unique applications.

Other features include multi-board support in a single server and also 'Decode-whilst-Encode' when used with Optibase's VideoPlex HD PCI decoder. Professional and accurate tape deck control allows material to be imported and encoded in just one step.
