Link Microtek, the manufacturer and supplier of RF and microwave components, subsystems and instrumentation, has successfully completed its move into new premises in the centre of Basingstoke. For the first time since it was established in 1995, the company now has all its operations – including the design and manufacturing activities of its Engineering Division – under one roof.
Link Microtek acquired the building, High Point, in 2007 and since then has been going through the process of expanding and altering it to meet the company’s specific requirements, as well as completely refurbishing it to bring it into line with the latest Building Regulations.

Originally providing 7000ft2 of floor space, this has now been increased by nearly 50% to 10,000ft2 over three floors. The main part of the expansion was necessary to accommodate the Engineering Division workshop, which had always been located on a separate site since the formation of the division in 1998.

Link Microtek’s managing director Steve Cranstone is very pleased with the end result: The workshop is required for fabricating the wide variety of components and systems designed by Link Microtek, and by integrating the Engineering Division with the rest of the company we have dramatically improved internal communications and efficiency.

“The acquisition of High Point was a major step forward for the company, and now that the building works have been completed, it provides us with all the facilities we will need for the foreseeable future.”

In addition to the engineering workshop, the ground floor includes a test and assembly area, an instrument service and calibration centre, a clean test room with environmental test facilities, and a stores and despatch area. The first floor accommodates the engineering design department, together with sales, administration, accounts, management offices, and an IT department whose responsibilities include running a new VOIP communications system and hosting Link Microtek’s websites. On the second floor is a training room, a rooftop antenna test area, a boardroom and kitchen facilities.
Steve Cranstone again: “All the building services installed as part of the refurbishment – from the thermal management system to the lighting - have been chosen to minimise their environmental impact, with the result that we have achieved an excellent EPC rating of 42 (Category B emissions).”

Situated just half a minute from Basingstoke shopping centre and offering easy access to the railway station and motorway network, High Point is proving to be a popular location with both staff and customers.
