Gresham Power Electronics has secured a £1.18m order from Korea to supply UPS systems. These systems will then be fitted to four MARS (Military Afloat Reach and Sustainability) tankers being built by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME). To be delivered to the UK MoD, each MARS tanker requires a total of eight UPS systems of various power ratings.

The MARS tankers will support Type 45 Destroyers, which Gresham Power has already provided a wide range of power conversion and distribution equipment for. Fuel, food, fresh water and ammunition are among the supplies the tankers will provide the destroyers while at sea.

Jake Moir, Managing Director, Gresham Power Electronics, comments; “After nine months of hard work by us and our Korean partner C&A Electric we are very pleased to have secured this important contract. This order will be a major part of our forward order book for the next two years and provide us with a platform to develop further new products for customers worldwide. Our defence business continues to grow and we now have export customers in markets that include Spain, France, Australia, India and now Korea.”
