Freescale Semiconductor and Green Hills Software have announced a development partnership to produce groundbreaking multicore development tools for Freescale’s QorIQ™ communications platforms. The tools will feature capabilities unavailable on competing processors, enabling developers to bring their QorIQ platform-based products to market faster and with higher quality.
Green Hills demonstrated the MULTI IDE simultaneously debugging 8 cores on the QorIQ P4080 processor running on the Virtutech Simics system simulator at the recent Freescale Technology Forum in Florida. The demonstration also included the Green Hills INTEGRITY RTOS with Padded Cell hypervisor hosting both applications and guest operating systems. INTEGRITY’s symmetric multi processing capabilities perform automatic load balancing for these applications and guest OSes across the cores. Also featured was the ultra small footprint µ-velOSity kernel securely virtualized by Green Hills Software’s Padded Cell hypervisor.

“As the number of processing elements in a single device grows, so does the complexity of the software project,” said Lynelle McKay, senior vice president and general manager for Freescale’s Networking & Multimedia Group. “We are working with Green Hills Software to help customers solve this software development challenge by leveraging innovative on-chip features designed to simplify development and debug on our advanced multicore architecture.”

“The QorIQ platforms provide unprecedented hardware capabilities to enable our leading multicore software development tools,” said David Kleidermacher, chief technology officer, Green Hills Software. “Freescale has shown tremendous vision in focusing on the formidable software development challenge facing next-generation multicore embedded systems designs.”
